#Great news everybody

Index 01 has now entered mass production. We’ve finished all the testing and design changes we need to make. Things are working very well!

Thank you to all the 200+ testers (fingers pictured above) who helped test the software and hardware. We’ve made a bunch of tweaks and improvements from your feedback. We’re not out of the woods yet - we still need to finish manufacturing all the rings over the next 2 months! We’re still working on polishing the software (see below). Finally, there still may be delays - be prepared to wait to receive your Index 01 in your specific colour/size selection.

Here’s the rough manufacturing and shipping schedule

• We offer 20 colour/size variations (Size 6-13 in 3 colours, plus size 6 in gold). The logistics of this are notably more difficult than watches!
• The first Index 01 orders will ship out next week.
• With over 13,000 pre-orders, we expect to finish shipping the majority of all pre-ordered rings by the end of August, with a few final size/color variants shipping in September.

If you preordered Index 01 on rePebble.com/index, we’ll send you an email before your ring is ready to ship asking you to confirm your address and pay any additional fees due. If you haven’t already selected your Index 01 size and colour, please do so on orders.rePebble.com.

⚠️ Important Note For Index 01 Pre-orderers ⚠️

We’ve received reports from some testers that Index 01 may feel every so slightly smaller than the ring sizers. Please take the time now to recheck your ring size with the ring sizer kit. If the ring sizer feels tight on your finger, is hard to get on/off, or if you cannot easily clench your hand with the sizer on, please change your size to the next larger size. When in doubt, order a larger size. You can always adjust a larger Index 01 to feel smaller with a foam adhesive or clip but you can’t make it larger!

#What you need to know about Index 01

As with Pebble 2 Duo and PT2, we’re trying to be as upfront and clear as possible. We want to set your expectations accordingly and make sure that everyone is happy with the product they receive. Index 01 is the first ‘new’ product that we’ve made - a completely new combination of hardware and software. Overall, it works exactly as we intended it to work and hits all the features and capabilities (and even more!) we laid out in the announcement blog post.

We’re excited to get Index 01 onto your fingers very soon. Before you confirm your order, please make sure that you’re expectations are aligned with what we are pledging to deliver.

Pebble is not a typical tech startup or consumer electronics company. We’re building the gadgets of our dreams because we want them. We have no investors and no ‘take over the world’ aspirations. We keep our company very small so that we can sustainably build (ie not lose money) and support awesome gadgets like Index 01 long into the future.

Software - Unlike Pebble watches which have been around for 10+ years, Index 01 is our first product in an entirely new category. The software that powers it is brand new and will undoubtedly have bugs and rough edges for months, if not years. Not all features will work for everyone at all times. The UI design is still very fresh (to put it nicely). But we are extremely responsive to bug reports, and work fast - just check out the ‘Index Fixes’ changelog. The Pebble mobile app is also open source, meaning that other folks can (and have!) contribute features and improvements. The app also hosts our watch functionality, which may be a bit confusing.

Hardware - this is the first time we’ve ever made a ring! We’ve done extensive environmental testing on Index 01 (including drop testing, water submersion, salt and hot water spray, repeated button pressing and many others), but it’s possible that your ring may have rough edges (figuratively, not literally). It’s also not designed to be invincible. That’s one of the reasons why we priced it at just $75. It’s a piece of consumer electronics you wear on your finger. It will get banged up and scratched. The microphone hole may clogged. The silicone button will wear down over time. As documented on the product listing, we offer a 30 day warranty against manufacturing defects.

#What can I do with Index 01?

Index 01 is a smart voice recording ring you wear on your index finger. Press the button on the ring, talk, and the Pebble mobile app on your phone transcribes what you said, organizes it, and (optionally) routes it to other tools like Notion, Google Tasks, a webhook, an MCP or other destinations. The ring captures your thoughts. The Pebble app on your phone is the brain.

Personally, I love using my Index 01 are to jot down notes (product ideas, things to remember, book recommendations, etc), set reminders, timers and alarms, send messages to my wife (through WhatsApp and Beeper), search web for answers (What’s the weather tomorrow?) and skip to next music track while biking. Lately, I have started building little plugins to do more with my Index 01 (including a Google Home MCP to control my lights).

Index 01 is extremely flexible and customizable. With a little bit of setup, you can fit it into your workflow. It works with the same open source Pebble mobile app you can use for our watches. You can use Index 01 with or without owning a Pebble watch.

#What to expect

• It’s designed to do one thing very well - record quick thoughts. One tester summed it up very well:

  

• Our testers on average use it to record roughly 1 minute of thoughts each day. At that rate, the battery should last for around 3 years. Remember - you never need to charge Index 01, you can keep it on your finger at all times.

• Index 01 only records while you press the button.

• The ring is made of CNC machined stainless steel, with a silicone button with a satisfying tactile click-feel. We worked incredibly hard on this click!

  

• Index 01 works with iPhone and Android smartphones. You must sign in with a Google, Apple or GitHub account to use Index 01.

• Recordings take around 3 to 10 seconds to transfer to the Pebble app on your phone. If your phone is out of range, Index 01 can store up to 5 minutes of recordings that will sync when you walk back in range of your phone.

• Index 01 is designed to be incredibly private and 100% local-first. These are your personal thoughts and notes, after all!

  • On-device speech-to-text model and AI agent (LLM).
  • No cloud service is required - it still works even if your phone is in airplane mode.
  • The mobile app is open source - you can inspect the code to see exactly how it works.
  • Optional cloud backup with strong encryption (you control your keys)

• While we created Index 01 to do one thing extremely well, we also left the side door open for those who want to customize it to their own personal workflow.

  • Sync notes and reminders to Notion, Google Tasks, Apple Reminders, Obsidian and very shortly Google Tasks, Ticktick, Todoist, Any.do and many more.
  • Send messages on 13 chat networks via Beeper (Android only currently)
  • Add events to your phone calendar
  • Connect Index 01 to practically any Android app with Tasker
  • Webhooks - send each recording or transcript to your personal agent (eg Openclaw, Hermes, Codex, Claude Code, potentially with this)
  • MCP - connect an MCP and control practically anything from Index 01 (our team loves using it with Home Assistant or Google Home, but really the possibilities are endless).
  • For ultimate flexibility, fork the open source Pebble mobile app and build whatever your heart desires.

• We’ve built a webapp that you can use to listen to recordings, view and add to your Index notes and reminders - index.rePebble.com

• Index 01 costs $75 and there is no paid subscription. Everything listed is included in the purchase price. At some point in the future, we may release additional features that may require a subscription, but we have zero plans at this time to do so - honestly I’m just writing this down so no one is surprised in case we do it at some point in the future.

#Things to be aware of

• Your Index 01 will probably pick up some scratches, especially if you lift weights with knurling or knock it against hard or rough surfaces.
• We’ve done extensive environmental testing on Index 01, including water resistance tests at 1m depth. You can gently wash hands and shower with Index 01 (do not expose it to high pressure water or hot steam), but do not swim with it.
• Be careful not to clog the microphone hole with gels or creams - the audio quality will degrade. Do not poke at the microphone hole with anything sharp - that will rupture the protective cover. We offer cleaning instructions.
• Some testers have reported that Index 01 ‘runs small’ and may feel every so slightly smaller than the ring sizers.
• The microphone is designed to capture audio within 5-20cm of the microphone, and does a decent job at dropping background noise. This means it cannot be used to record meetings, for example.

#Things to look forward to

• We’re working on a plugin system to make it easy to add connectors to other note taking and reminder apps, or to add new tools, actions and capabilities to the AI agent. Developers will be able to post and share their plugins on the Pebble appstore.
• To increase privacy and security even more, we’re planning to move our (optional) cloud transcription and AI service into a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) cloud service.
• The UI today in the Pebble app is very basic - it works, but it doesn’t look great. Expect this to improve a lot over time.
• We’re also working on a Pebble watch companion app for Index 01 and improvements to the Index webapp and desktop companion experience.

Index 01 is exactly the product I dreamed about and shared back in December. It has totally changed my life. There’s no way I could go back to a world without external memory for my brain. But don’t just take it from me - testers already feel the same way! I hope you enjoy yours as well.
